My wife and I have been missionaries for 15 years in Kenya, serving missionary families from all over Africa by educating their children at Rift Valley Academy. One thing that has been impressed on my mind through the years is how God’s grace has met us time and again in our times of need in ways that perhaps we would not see as well if we were not so dependent upon grace. In June 2019, we found ourselves staring at an impossible $2000 deficit which, if left unpaid, would mean our daughter would leave without a transcript or diploma. Not knowing where to turn, and feeling that we had exhausted all other options, we put out a desperate plea to our newsletter recipients. I was crushed, questioning whether perhaps the message I was to receive from God was, “It’s time for you to leave the mission field and do something else.”
I clicked send with a tear in my eye and a feeling of despair. Within 24 hours, I had three responses to this email. One of them came from Melissa Haynes, founder and president of More Than Sparrows ministry. She told me that the ministry would like to cover the $2000, and they immediately put the check in the mail. Without the help of More Than Sparrows, we would have been sunk; but if that is all you see, you have missed the other half.
Sparrows was a tool in the hand of God. God is the author of grace, and used Sparrows to give it, and this is just what He keeps doing for us time and again. Thank you More Than Sparrows. You have not only been an instrument in meeting our physical needs, but you have also been an instrument used by God in my own walk of sanctification.
