OUR HISTORY
The Story Behind our ministry
When Melissa Haynes’ family had to leave their mission field in Kenya due to a family crisis, they never expected the challenges that awaited them. Shortly after returning to the States, Melissa was diagnosed with cancer, and despite having insurance, the medical expenses quickly became overwhelming. Like many missionaries, her budget was designed for life overseas, not for the high cost of living back home. With limited financial support available, the Haynes Family were forced to rely on credit cards—only to realize that mission agencies often won’t allow missionaries to return to the field with significant debt.
This experience opened Melissa’s eyes to a larger problem: countless missionaries face similar financial hardships when crises arise, delaying or even preventing their return to ministry. Melissa founded More Than Sparrows to bridge this gap, providing much-needed support to Christian workers so they can continue their calling without financial burdens standing in the way.
